Bhima-Koregaon violence: Ekbote's relatives receive letter demanding family's encounter, case registered

Family members of right-wing activist Milind Ekbote, arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence have approached police claiming that they have received an anonymous letter in which the sender has demanded encounter of Ekbote and his family members.

Family members of right-wing activist Milind Ekbote, arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence have approached police claiming that they have received an anonymous letter in which the sender has demanded encounter of Ekbote and his family members. 

According to Ekbote family, one of Ekbote's relatives who runs a hospital in Model colony area received this letter on March 26 along with some paper cuttings. "The letter was delivered on the address of the hospital where the anti-social elements have demanded the police to carry out encounter of Milind Ekbote and his family members or blow up the entire family with canon," the family members claimed. 

When contacted, inspector (crime) Vitthal Darekar of Shivajinagar police station he said, "The sender sent the letter through postal service and the letter was sent from Shivajinagar area only. After receiving a complaint from Ekbote family, we have registered a case of criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication under section 507 of Indian Penal Code against an unidentified person and the further investigation is on."

Earlier this month, one person was arrested for attempting to blacken Ekbote's face in Pune court premises and that time, his relatives had blamed the police for showing laxity in providing security to him. 

Ekbote has been arrested in connection with the Bhima- Koregaon violence case after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by the Supreme Court.
