Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of taking credit for the schemes launched by the previous UPA regime, Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Sunday described the BJP as 'Bharatiya Jhoot Party' and said that it is indulging in deliberate and serious misinformation campaigns. He alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre has changed the name of UPA's financial inclusion program to 'Jan Dhan Yojana' and is falsely claiming the credit for it.
"It was our government's program, comprehensive program of financial inclusion which we brought in the name of 'Swabhiman', you change the name to 'Jan Dhan Yojana', but did you when you shamelessly proclaimed credit for it on television cameras not give any credit to us. It is the same program carried out with much more fanfare and noise," Singhvi said. "It seems that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP has started doing deliberate and serious misinformation campaigns. I would hate to be in a position where we start calling them Bharatiya 'Jhoot' Party but certainly the long list of so called achievements kept before the nation today would be amusing and comical if the misinformation contained in them was not tragic for the nation," he added.
Singhvi further said the government is falsely taking credit for the reduction in fuel prices. "You talk of reduction in petrol prices, when you know that you have got nothing to do with it. The price of petrol in international market is at lowest possible 89 rupees which used to be 115 rupees plus, on that reduction petrol prices should have been reduced by 10 rupees per litre and diesel by seven rupees per litre. You have kept diesel unchanged and you have reduced petrol by five rupees. Is that an achievement?" he asked.
Singhvi's remarks come at a time when the ruling BJP has been targeting the Congress during the election campaigns in Maharashtra and Haryana.
