Bharatiya Janata Party may field Madhuri Dixit-Nene for Lok Sabha seat from Pune

Bharatiya Janata Party's Pune leadership was thrown into a tizzy after Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit-Nene's name surfaced as a possible BJP candidate for Pune Lok Sabha seat in 2019.

Though not confirmed by the party leaders yet, the speculation about the 'Dhak-Dhak' girl's possible foray into politics took the social media by storm.

Earlier in June, BJP president Amit Shah had visited Madhuri's home in Mumbai, as a part of the BJP's ' contact for support' campaign. Post the visit, rumours started to make rounds about her entry into politics.

More recently, sources said that the BJP leadership carried out an internal survey, where it emerged that Madhuri's name led the pack as a possible candidate for the Pune LS seat.

Meanwhile, the local BJP leadership in Pune claimed that they were unaware of any such survey. "There is a well-established process in the party to select candidates. As far as Lok Sabha elections are concerned, the central parliamentary board has the power to select the candidate," said BJP city president Yogesh Gogawale.

The constituency is currently represented by Anil Shirole, who remained unavailable for comments.
