Bengaluru: Safety and security to go hi-tech in the city

Bengaluru is all set to see its safety and security measures upgraded under the Mega City Policing (MCP) project. According to a report in Bangalore Mirror, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and Ahmedabad are part of the Mega City Policing project and will see major improvement in the city’s safety and security.

Some of the additions to help control the city’s law and order include sophisticated highway patrol cars, rapid intervention vehicles, bomb disposal vehicles, an upgraded police emergency helpline 100, more surveillance cameras and command centres, states the report.

In Bengaluru, the total cost for some of these additions will be around Rs.30.3 crore i.e. surveillance cameras (Rs. 3.7 crore), command centres (Rs. 15 crore), sophisticated highway patrol cars (Rs. 3.5 crore), rapid intervention vehicles (Rs. 3.8 crore), bomb disposal vehicles (Rs. 1 crore) and upgrade of dial 100 (Rs. 7 crore).

More than 3000 surveillance cameras are expected to be installed around the city to help the police monitor law and order better. The main areas that the safety measures will focus on would be the high-security zones, tech corridor and crime-prone areas of the city.
