Bengaluru: Rs 1000 for one kg jasmine?

This week sees numerous festivals in south India, namely, Onam and Varamahalakshmi, both of which fall on Friday. As a result, the price of flowers has started to skyrocket.

Bengaluru has also seen some unprecedented rain which has pushed the cost of flowers further up. The price has gone up two-fold already over the last two days and will see a further hike as the week progresses.

President of the Flower Market Merchants’ Association, GM Diwakar, has told media that the price of jasmine may shoot up to even Rs 1000 per kg because of the huge demand.

Lotus is another flower that people love to buy and it usually costs about Rs 15 for one. Now with the surge in demand, one lotus is likely to sell for Rs 50 by Thursday.
