Bengaluru: Biocon scientist killed in road accident, two others injured

The accident occurred when the driver of the bus tried to overtake the truck on NICE Road.

A 25-year-old scientist working with Biocon died and two of her colleagues were injured when the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck on NICE Road. The accident took place on Wednesday evening around 6 pm. The Hindu reported that the victim, the injured and the 12 other passengers all worked with Biocon.

The 12 other passengers did not suffer any injuries. The two injured, Anup and Prajwal, were taken to a nearby hospital.

The daily reports that the accident occurred when the driver of the bus tried to overtake the truck on NICE Road.

The victim, identified as Revathi Raghunath, was sitting in the front of the bus. She sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot. She reportedly specialised in virology and had joined the company just three months ago, according to the police. Raghunath lived in Hosakerehalli and was the only daughter to her parents, The Hindu report said.

A company spokesperson was quoted as saying, “We have lost an employee in a road accident today evening. At the moment, our team is with the family and providing all support in this difficult time. May God rest her soul in peace.”

The daily adds that the driver of the bus fled even before passers-by gathered at the accident spot. Now, the Electronics City Police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving and death due to negligence against the driver. They are on the look-out for him. According to the report, the bus belonged to a private operator and had been contracted to transport employees of Biocon.
