Bengaluru: An accident takes place every 1.5 hours in the city

The number of accidents increased on the weekend as well as in the evening and late night.

The number of increasing vehicles on the city roads has also led to increase in accidents. According to a report in The Hindu, an analysis by the Bengaluru City Traffic Police shows that an accident takes place every 90 minutes in the city. The report also shows that there are days when there is an accident every 60 minutes!

According to the report there are certain areas in the city which are prone to accidents and they are referred to as ‘black spots’. The spot which saw the highest number of accidents was Hosur Road (Madiwala stretch to Electronic City). There were more than 250 accidents in 2014 on this road and 46 of them fatal. The city’s Outer Ring Road was next with 208 accidents of which 48 were fatal. 

The number of accidents increased on the weekend as well as in the evening and late night. The report also states that more number of children below the age of 12 have died or been injured in accidents last year. Most of the fatalities were a result of bike accidents.
