Stray dog menace continues in Bengaluru. The latest victim is six-year-old Ramya from Anjana Nagar on Magadi Road. According to the local residents, Ramya along with her friend, was playing in front of her house on Thursday when around 10 stray dogs attacked her.

Daughter of Ramu and Jayalakshmi, she has been admitted to Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) for treatment. According to the residents, while Ramya’s friend managed to escape, the stray dogs attacked her face, hands and legs. The neighbours chased away the stray dogs and admitted Ramya to a private hospital where she was given First Aid and later shifted to KIMS. The residents blamed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) authorities for their failure in controlling the stray dogs in the area.

Speaking with iamin,  Dr Maheswar Gowda, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, Maheswar Gowda, Joint Director, Animal Husbandry Department, BBMP, said the staff of animal husbandry department had visited the spot on Friday morning. “The dog squad of BBMP caught four stray dogs. These dogs are kept under observation. We will continue combing the area for the next two days. As of now, around 60% of stray dogs were operated under the animal birth control (ABC) programme. Effort will be made to catch the remaining dogs and sterilise them as per ABC norms," Dr Maheshwar Gowda said.Maheshwar Gowda said.

He said that dog squad is not able to catch more stray dogs since there is huge (around 30 acres) vacant land adjacent to Anjanapura. “The vacant land is full of bushes and weeds. Since it is a vacant land, stray dogs come here from other areas,’’ he said, adding that Ramya's medical treatment cost would be borne by the BBMP.
