The Rashtriya Sayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday alleged that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was providing patronage to jihadi activities in the state.

“There had been several instances such as Burdwan blast, razing of a police station at Kaliachak in Malda and the recent communal violence in Dhulagarh in Howrah district which show how jihadi terror had been rampant in Bengal and Mamata government had done nothing to stop these. Neither the victims of these violence have got any state compensation nor have offenders been punished. It can be easily said that she is promoting jihadi activities in Bengal,” said RSS South Bengal general secretary Dr Jishnu Basu. He added that the reason was political mileage. “Mamata and her leaders are doing this for the sake of votebank politics. Are they trying to convert West Bengal in to West Bangladesh? I would ask her and her leaders to refrain from such dangerous tactics for the sake of the country,” he said.

In an interview on Thursday, Mamata had alleged that the RSS was spreading communal violence and trying to spread terror in Bengal like they were doing in other parts of the country. Countering that, Basu said that the Sangh never instigated any violence of any sort across the country. Asked about the recent life sentencing of RSS workers Devendra Gupta and Bhavesh Patel in the Ajmer blast case, Basu maintained, “They are not RSS workers. Many join the RSS but after sometimes when they find the RSS principles are different from those, they quit the Sangh but never admit it to outsiders. They are likely to be two of that type.”

Basu also negated Mamata’s claims that Dalits of Bengal consumed beef. “Mamata in an interview yesterday had said that she knew Dalits of West Bengal eat beef and that they have full freedom to do so. I would like to know the place and the sub-caste of that Dalit group because we would want to visit that place and see for ourselves,” Basu said.

Referring to the recent national meeting of RSS in Coimbatore, he said that the focus was on Bengal where anti-national activities were rampant. “We will have to document what is happening in the state and reach out to people for creating an awareness among them and to make them realise what might happen in the future if things go unchecked. We will leave no stone unturned to protect the pluralistic society that we have,” he added.
