Tension ruled the day in Birbhum’s Sahapur today, where dispute centering around the gherao of a local TMC leader's house regarding the 'cut money' issue acted as a catalyst for violence in the entire region. Instances of brutality by hired mercenaries hit the news as crude bombs were reported to have been hurled even in the presence of the police.

Local villagers claim that they had been demanding the 'cut money' be returned by TMC leader Enamul to them. They said that as a response to their demands, Enamul's men started assaulting the demonstrators even in police presence.

A massive police force later rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control. However, chaos still ensues in the locality.

Huge quantities of crude bombs and other explosives were recovered from three drums in Birbhum's Simulia village on Tuesday night, while more detonators and socket bombs were recovered from a lone godown in Barjor village in Rampurhat.

The TMC and the BJP have accused each other of stockpiling explosives and spreading disturbance and unrest in different parts of the district, including Nanoor, Labpur, and Sadaipur, ever since the polls ended.
