West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the people of Bengal had exhibited a lot of patience as they celebrated Durga Puja and observed Muharram at the same time.

“There had been a lot of plans for disrupting peace in the state by several groups who indulge in communal violence and polarisation but people of Bengal didn’t fall prey to those provocation. They have shown that what Bengal can do no other state can. Even Ganapati immersion and Muharram could not take place together. Some people had moved court but people of Bengal had shown that they are the last decision makers,” she said.

Sending a clear message across the board that Mamata would not tolerate any lacklustre performance ahead of the panchayat elections, during the administrative meeting  in Jhargram she reprimanded state Backward Classes Welfare Minister Churamani Mahato saying that he had lost connect with the common people and that in turn was affecting the organisational structure of the party in the district. “I am not getting any good feedback about your performance. I am told that you don't go to meet the people in general. Why?” she asked him during the meeting.

Immediately after the meeting Mahato was removed from the post of district TMC president of Jhargram. He was replaced by Ajit Maiti, who is also the party district president of adjoining West Midnapore. Political experts said that this move of Mamata was a warning to all others that the electoral success which her party has achieved should be retained at any cost and definitely should not be lost owing to laidback attitude of workers.
