Bedi directs municipal officials to revive crematorium

Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today paid a surprise visit to the electric crematorium that has been lying dysfunctional at neighbouring Karuvadikuppam for months now and ordered the officials concerned to take immediate steps to restore it.

A release from the Raj Nivas said that following complaints that the equipment had been out of order for several months, she carried out an inspection at the crematorium and found that it had been dysfunctional.

It was also found that there was no annual maintenance contract to ensure regular working of the power operated crematorium, it said.

Bedi then directed the Local Administration Department Director and the commissioner of Uzharvarkarai Municipality to draw up an action plan to restore the equipment at the crematorium.
