BBMP Elections 2015: JD(S) manifesto promises Annapoorna Kitchens on the lines of Chennai’s Amma Canteens

Janata Dal (Secular), in its manifesto has promised to open Annapoorna Kitchens as done by Tamil Nadu Government in Chennai to help about 15 lakh low income earning persons in Bengaluru. The JD(S) manifesto proposed to create five lakh dwelling units by following policies adopted by Hong Kong. According to the manifesto, the houses will be available at highly affordable rent and Raitara Santhe will be opened in all BBMP markets on the lines of the Santhe already established and functioning at Yelahanka.

While appealing to voters to elect JD(S) candidates in the BBMP elections former chief minister and JD(S) state president HD Kumaraswamy, said “You gave an opportunity to BJP during the last elections. They failed miserably in managing garbage and providing infrastructure in Bengaluru. I am confident of voters electing JD(S) candidates to ensure a better and transparent governance in BBMP,’’ Kumaraswamy said.

Transport

  • JD(S) will ensure smooth flow of traffic in arterial roads.
  • Efforts will be made to make important roads bidirectional.
  • Road-widening will be limited to only 21 roads and the notification issued for widening 98 roads will be withdrawn.
  • Circular walk way to be created at six junctions.
  • Eight signal free corridors will be created.

 
Digital Connectivity

  • Robust network connectivity for commercial operations in the next five years.
  • Mobile devices to enjoy further flexibility in when and where activities can be carried out. Real time information provisioning will be possible.

 
Cleanliness

  • It proposed to reduce plastic waste in garbage to 20 per cent of current levels in the first year. Use of plastic to be reduced to less than 5 per cent of current levels by 2020.
  • Use of plastic including sponge and thermocol in bill boards, packing of FMCG goods, electronic goods, mattresses, furniture will be prohibited.
  • Using of cotton reusable bags will be promoted.
  • Plastic processing fee on all commercial establishments selling plastic bottled water, aerated water, juices, beverages for disposing of plastic waste.
  • The amount collected to be provided for opening of units to repurchase plastic bottles.
  • Plastic processing fee will be levied on all pharmacies.

 
Waste segregation

  • Segregation of waste at source is mandatory.
  • Only segregated waste will be collected.
  • No garbage will be burnt. It will be reprocessed to create resource.
  • Waste Management Authority will support create of waste reprocessing units at industrial sheds.
  • JD(S) will support scientific processing of building debris.
  • To support organic waste processing Swedish model.
  • A system will be introduced for collection of old tyres, footwear, luggage bags and mattresses so that they can be subjected to recovery and disposal.
  • Waste recognition, segregation and disposal will be part of curriculum in all schools of Banegaluru.
  • Management of water run off
  • Area and water holding capacity of existing tanks will be protected by removal of encroachments.
  • All the tanks in BBMP jurisdiction will be rejuvenated.
  • To insist construction of sewage processing plants by apartment blocks.
  • To protect all storm water drains by fending the boundaries.

Healthcare

  • To ensure every citizen of Bengaluru has access to quality healthcare.
  • To create a network composed of private as well as public health providers and implement the scheme of Universal Access to Healthcare.
  • It will be on the lines of NHS UK but modified suitably to our requirements.
  • Bengaluru Public Health Authority will be established
  • To ensure BBMP dispensaries function 24x7 with the involvement of private sector under CSR programme.
