Barmer police accused of shielding culprits in rape-murder case

The family members and relatives of a minor girl whose body was found in a water tank after alleged rape on Wednesday accused the Rajasthan police of shielding other accused involved in the case and demanded action against them.

The girl aged around 16 years was allegedly raped on the evening of June 9 and her body was found inside a water tank near her house in Chava village the next day. Her parents have alleged that she was murdered after being raped.

The family members and other people today handed over a representation to the Barmer Superintendent of Police Gagandeep Singla demanding action the policemen for allegedly not carrying out investigation in the case properly and have also demanded to include three names in the FIR.

Initially, they named one person in the FIR and he was detained. Now they are alleging that three more persons were involved in the rape and murder case. They have also demanded action against the investigating officer accusing him of not conducting proper investigation, the Barmer SP said.

Members of the girl's caste and locals gathered today in her village and then handed over the representation. SHO Baytoo police station Arun Kumar said that the FIR was lodged for rape and murder and the accused name in the FIR, who is minor, has already been detained.

They want three more names to be included in the FIR as accused. The matter is under investigation, he said.
