Bareilly: 8-year-old girl raped by 14-year-old boy, minor arrested

Even after amendment of POCSO Act awarding death sentence for raping of minor girls upto age 12, , the Uttar Pradesh Police is failing to curb growing cases of rape against minor girls of this age-group. In yet another case, an eight-year-old minor girl was raped by a 14-year-old minor boy in Bareilly district.

The incident was reported from Sarania village under Sibiganj Police Station in Bareilly district. The minor girl was playing in a nearby field alone when the boy grabbed her and raped. The boy fled from crime scene leaving the minor girl bleeding profusely. Hearing her shrieks, the family member rushed her to the hospital and informed the police. Ironically, both the victim and the accused are minors and were studying in the same school . The police have arrested the accused boy who has confessed to his crime.

A case under POCSO Act has been registered at the Sibiganj Police Station against the boy. The Sibiganj Police said that the incident had occurred on Sunday evening and the family members had informed the police on Monday morning.Senior police officials rushed to the spot along with forensic experts and took samples from the crime scene and recorded statements from the victim’s parents and relatives. The boy, who belonged to the same village, was arrested immediately.

“We have registered a case and sent the girl and the accused minor boy for the medical examinations,” said Jogendra Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, Bareilly. Earlier, a divyang minor girl was raped in the district three days ago. She is  admitted in the district hospital in critical condition.
