'Barbaric & cowardly', says New Delhi on Kabul attack

Standing in solidarity with the people and government of Afghanistan the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement called such acts of terror a cowardly act.

India strongly condemned the Kabul attack, claimed by Taliban on Saturday, calling it "a barbaric and dastardly act targeting innocent civilians". Standing in solidarity with the people and government of Afghanistan the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement called such acts of terror a cowardly act.

"There can be no justification for such reprehensible attacks. The perpetrators of these attacks and their supporters should be brought to justice," the MEA statement said.

The attack follows the cowardly terror attack on the children and civilians in Jalalabad on January 24.

"India stands in solidarity with the Government and the people of Afghanistan at this difficult time of mindless violence and terror imposed on them. We convey our heartfelt condolences to the next of kins of victims of these terror attacks and pray for speedy recovery to those injured. India stands ready to extend all possible assistance, including for treatment of those injured," the MEA said.

The attack took place at a point that is near an Indian consular office and also to some other embassies as an ambulance packed with explosives blew up at a police checkpoint.

Indian embassy and consulates have been attacked in past in the terror torn country.

In June last year, 80 people were killed in a suicide car attack near the Indian Embassy in Kabul. The blast was carried out by the Haqqani Network working closely with Pakistan's ISI, according Afghanistani intelligence.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also condemned the car bomb attack in the Afghan capital, saying, "We all must unite to vanquish this nexus of terror."

"I strongly condemn the suicide car bomb attack in the Afghan Capital. We all must unite to vanquish this nexus of terror. My thoughts & (and) prayers go out to the victims & their families," Mehbooba wrote on Twitter.
