Banda Lok Sabha Election Result 2019 UP: BJP's RK Singh Patel wins by 58,938 votes

The constituency went to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 6.

The Samajwadi Party, Which contested the polls in alliance with the BSP and the RLD, fielded Shyama Charan Gupta - sitting BJP MP from Prayagraj - against BJP's RK Singh Patel. Bhairon Prasad Mishra, the sitting MP from Banda was denied ticket by the BJP. Bal Kumar Patel, former Samajwadi Party MP from Mirzapur, has been given ticket by the Congress to contest from Banda. Bal Kumar Patel is the brother of Shiv Kumar Patel alias Dadua a notorious bandit who operated in Chambal region on Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border.

Constituency profile

Banda Lok Sabha constituency, one of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. Bal Kumar Patel was the SP candidate from Banda in 2004 and was on the third position after Mishra and RK Singh Patel.

From 2004 to 2009, the constituency was represented by Shyama Charan Gupta who had left the SP to join the BJP in 2014.

Banda Lok Sabha constituency, part of Bundelkhand region in UP, comprises five assembly constituencies of Banda and Chitrakoot districts: Baberu, Banda, Naraini (Banda district) and Chitrakoot, Manikpur (Chitrakoot district). 

Lok Sabha Elections 2019: State Profile

In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in the state, securing 42.63 per cent of the votes. BJP ally Apna Dal bagged two more. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats with a vote share of 22.35 per cent. The BSP did not win any seat but secured 19.77 per cent votes. The Congress registered wins on two UP seats in 2014, bagging 7.53 per cent of the votes. 

UP is facing a triangular battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
