Bakers in Kerala have created a record by making the longest eggless cake to celebrate the 131st anniversary of cake baking in India.

The 600-feet long cake has been recorded by the officials of Limca Book of Records and certified as the "Longest ever made eggless cake in India".

The cake weighing around 3120 kilogram has been imprinted with 720 photos of historic people, political leaders, well-known personalities, cultural art forms, temples, churches and even famous captive temple elephants of Kerala are printed using edible digital printing technique.

The cake also depicts the origin and evolution of cake making since 1883.

The attempt was undertaken by Kerala-based bakery house 'Cochin Bakery', which is known to be one of the oldest companies established in the state. A team of 26 chefs took more than 20 hours to bake and decorate the record cake.

The idea was conceived by bakery owner, M.P. Ramesh, who has been making such cakes during the annual meet of Bake Expo.

"I am doing this for our Bakers Association and so thought of doing something creative and an award winning thing. This year, the yearly convention was scheduled at Thrissur and being a cultural capital of Kerala, we tried to include the culture and tradition of the place. Apart from this I wanted to showcase how the cake making or in particular bakery took it wings in the state and its associated history so that is how I started collecting pictures and photos of the places, its cultural and art forms and many well-known people. This is a 600-feet long cake with 720 photos and it is a vegetarian egg less cake and weighs around 3120 kilograms," Ramesh said.

The vegetarian cake has been made using ready-to-mix materials which includes raw cake, sugar, oil and icing.

Last time Ramesh had created a record of longest cake by covering 350 feet.

Hundreds of visitors and enthusiasts gathered in Thrissur to catch a glimpse of the mammoth wonder.

A visitor, Roshni Muralidharan, said such events should be organised from time to time.

"They have incorporated all the culturally and politically relevant personalities and institutions of Thrissur, looking forward to more such events," Muralidharan said.

Bake Expo 2014 has been organised to celebrate the 131st birth anniversary of cake making day, which is said to be first started in the small coastal town of Thalassery near Kannur district in Kerala.

The theme of this mammoth cake is centred on culture and heritage aspect attached with this industry.

To keep the cake and make it easy for the visitors, a same length tent was also built.
