Police are yet to trace the whereabouts of Radha and Varun Bagree, and Krishna Kumar Kothari, the directors and CEO of Bagree Market in Central Kolkata that caught fire last week.

A lookout notice has been issued against the trio and police are keeping a tab on transaction through their bank accounts and their phone locations. “No transactions have been taken place so far through their bank accounts and not surprisingly their phones have not been reachable since September 16 when the incident happened, gutting about 400 shops of the wholesale market,” said a senior police official. He also said that since lookout notices have been issued, it was expected that the trio will take the roadway to escape rather than the railway or the aerial route.

“One of the ways they would get hold of cash is through the hawala route so we are also keeping a watch on that so that if any transaction is carried out, we will know their location,” he added.

Sources also said that police will be notified even if their debit or credit cards were swiped. Police are hopeful that they will be nabbed soon. Joint commissioner (crime) of Kolkata Police said that it was only a matter of time before they were netted as their friends and relatives in Bengal and other states were under scanner already.

Shop owners of the market said they were happy the state had dealt with the accident. “We will take out a peaceful march from Bagree Market to Burrabazar PS on Monday, to express our gratitude to the state government, the police department, the fire fighters and the KMC,” said Ashutosh Singh, president, Bagree Market Central Kolkata Traders’ Welfare Association. He also said the association had brought in an expert on their own to have a look at the building to find out whether it needed to be demolished. “The expert had said that the building was strong enough and would be alright if proper repair work was done,” he added
