Badaun case: Cousin sisters committed suicide, not killed, claims CBI

After a five-month probe in the Badaun case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has found no evidence of murder or sexual assault in its probe into the death of two teenage cousins.

The two cousin sisters - aged 14 and 15 - went missing on May 27 evening and were found hanging from a mango tree on May 28 in their village. An incident had sparked national outrage with the Samajwadi Party government in the state coming under fire on the issue of law and order situation.

The Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) has ruled out sexual assault on the two teenaged cousins on August 21.

Earlier the accused arrested in wake of the incident had cleared the polygraph test, while the family members and witnesses according to CBI were inconsistent, while detailing about the incident.

Five accused including two constables were arrested in connection with the gang-rape and murder. However, a local court on September 1, had granted bail to two police constables - Sarvesh Yadav and Chatrapal Gangwar on the condition after giving a personal bond of Rs 2 lakh each besides sureties of the same amount.
