Terrorists sent a chilling reminder to Mehbooba Mufti-led government on Thursday when they carried out three back to back attacks leaving one Special Police Officer (SPO) dead and two others injured in the restive South Kashmir region.

The first attack was carried out at 8.25 pm when gunmen barged into the house of Special Police Officer (SPO) and fired indiscriminately at the inmates at Katsoo village of Bejbihara in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

In the attack, SPO Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh and his wife Fareeda suffered grievous wounds. Both of them were immediately rushed to the hospital where SPO Mushtaq was declared dead. “SPO was fired near his house and he passed away. His wife is also injured”, said Altaf Ahmad Khan, senior superintendent of police, Anantnag.

SPO Mushtaq was posted in the police station Sangam in Anantnag district. Security forces immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area. A major search operation has been launched to hunt down the militants responsible for the incident.

Minutes later, terrorists shot at and injured a Madrassa (seminary) teacher when he was returning after offering Namaz at Sooch village in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Sayar Ahmed suffered gunshot wounds in his leg and has been shifted to hospital where his condition is stated to be stable

“He was returning after offering prayers when militants shot at him near the Masjid. He has been shifted to hospital and his condition is stable”, said Shridhar Patil, superintendent of police, Kulgam district.

Earlier, terrorists fired at the security force patrol party near Ahagam in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The fire was retaliated and security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched a massive search operation to nab the terrorists responsible for the attack. “Some exchange of fire at  Ahagam-Trenz road at Shopian. Information is preliminary in nature”, tweeted Kashmir Police.
