The Uzbek province of Andijan -- the birthplace of the founder of the Mughal empire, Babur, will soon become a pharmaceutical hub for Indian companies.
India and Uzbekistan are to sign an MoU during President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to India on October 1. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved to make the region a pharmaceutical zone, where Indian companies will set up manufacturing facilities to cater to the Central Asian region. Andijan is located in the eastern part of the Fergana Valley in far eastern Uzbekistan, bordering Krgyzstan and Namangan region. Founder and first emperor of the Mughal dynasty in India, Babur was born here in 1483.
The proposal, approved by the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the need for setting up of Uzbek-Indian Free Pharmaceuticals Zone in Andijan to enable companies to establish production facilities in the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical sectors. Besides, both countries will also commit to combat illicit trafficking in narcotics, drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors.
