The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which is looking into the alleged rape accusations against former dairy minister Babulal Nagar has begun its investigation. The CBI had earlier obtained the documents and reports related to the case from the state police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) which was investigating the matter.
On Saturday afternoon, a six-member CBI team interrogated the victim. The interrogation regarding the case continued for hours and her statement was subsequently recorded. Although the team did not brief the media after the interrogation, reportedly the woman made the same statement as she had to the CID. Moreover, the woman also informed the CBI about the documents and evidence that the CID had submitted in court. Now it remains to be seen when the CBI team will interrogate the former minister in the matter.
Meanwhile, fresh agitations are being held in the matter by social activists in the city. On Saturday, the Naari Sanchetana Sansthan held a dharna and raised slogans against the former minister.
The Sansthan members were demanding that the minister be arrested.
The Sansthan members were also agitating over the alleged pressure on the victim to reach a compromise in the matter and leave the city.
Interestingly, on Friday the former minister’s name came up in another serious matter. Another rape victim has alleged that Nagar had threatened to kill her when she was held hostage and raped by men at one of Nagar’s houses in Mansarovar. Although the girl informed the police and the police nabbed the four accused, no action was taken against Nagar, even though she had clearly named him in her statement given under section 164.
