Nearly a fortnight after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) started an investigation into the alleged rape case against former minister for dairy, khadi and rural industries, Babulal Nagar, the agency arrested him on Friday after interrogating him for nearly six hours.
Nagar is accused of raping and beating up a 35-year-old woman on September 11, after he allegedly summoned her to his official bungalow in Jaipur on the pretext of giving her a job.
A case against him was registered on 17th September in Sodala police station on directions of court. It was the FSL report and victim’s cell phone’s location on the basis of which the CBI arrested the former minister, sources said.
Earlier in the day, the former minister and legislator from Dudu reached the Circuit House at 11.00 am. He had been served a notice by the CBI on Thursday to appear before it. Nagar reached the Circuit House at Khasa Kothi circle where the CBI investigating team has set up its investigation office.
After reaching the field office, Nagar told reporters, “I have already given my version to the CBI. I have full faith in the CBI investigation.” A special team of the Jaipur Commissionerate had brought Nagar to the Circuit House for questioning.
CBI sleuths then took him to room number 326 on the second floor of the building where they questioned Nagar and recorded his statement. The investigating team also made a video recording of the accuse minister’s statements.
A little while after Nagar reached the Circuit House, his son also reached the spot with many supporters who had to remain outside as the former minister was questioned for six hours with a break.
The interrogation resumed and continued till 6 pm around which time Nagar was placed under arrest.
Sources revealed that the CBI had already made up its mind to arrest the former minister as it had already sought an arrest warrant which was shown to Nagar before his arrest in the evening.
Keeping in mind the seriousness of the matter, additional police forces were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
After the arrest Nagar was taken to CBI’s office at Jaipur where he was kept for the night. Sources revealed that the sleuths were questioning Nagar again after reaching CBI office. “The investigating agency is questioning Nagar’s servant and another politician at its office,” a cop said. The CBI will produce Nagar before court on Saturday.
