Senior Congress leader Raj Babbar today accused the BJP-led NDA government of dragging the Army into politics and slammed its security as well as foreign policy record.

"BJP is not only playing politics through the Army but has also compromised with defence preparedness and the country's security," he said at a press conference here.

The celebrations by the BJP to mark three years of Narendra Modi government at the Centre were an attempt to divert people's attention from real issues, the actor-turned-politician said.

"The BJP-led NDA government has reduced the defence budget by Rs 8,058 crore this year while Rs 32,555 crore allocated under defence budget were returned unspent in the past three years," he said.

This is happening at a time when the armed forces are demanding increase in the budget allocation, he said.

"578 jawans have been martyred in the last three years. Pakistan beheaded our jawans on three occasions in the past six months. 203 jawans died in Jammu and Kashmir alone besides 877 civilians were killed in border areas in the last three years. 271 security personnels were killed in Naxal attacks," the Congress leader said.

Commenting on foreign policy, he said India's friends are now becoming foes.

"Our friend Russia has started supplying arms to Pakistan. The failed `neighbourhood policy' of the government is proving to be a security threat for our country. China has exponentially expanded strategic, economic and defence partnership with Pakistan and other neighbouring countries," he said.

All this shows lack of political will, direction and inaction, Babbar said.

"Overseas jobs are in peril. Indian techies are worst affected due to new American restrictions. Australia's new visa restriction also jeopardised jobs of 73,000 Indians.

Racial crimes against overseas Indians are on rise and our government has failed to act," he said.
