During the raids, sevikas at the two Ashrams locked doors and resisted the police. The police later broke the gates and searched the ashrams. During the search, the police found two girls locked in a bunker. They were freed and are being interrogated.

A total of eight sevikas from Siktarbagh and 45 from Kampil Ashram were taken into custody. "We will produce the detained women and girls before the court for recording their statement before the judicial magistrate," said Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tribhuvan Singh.

Except for girls, women and, including three from Nepal, the police did not find any incriminating documents from the two ashrams after a 5-hour search. Majority of the girls and women were from different states.

Over 100 police men from different stations were deployed.

Baba Dixit, who was born and brought up in Farrukhabad, had established his first Ashram in Kampil on his ancentral land in 1984 and later another at Siktarbagh. Since then, the ashram has been shrouded in controversy with locals complaining that women were being raped and held hostage there.

During initial interrogation, chief sevika Rekha Rai told the police that they were living in the ashrams on their own and there was no undue pressure on them.
