The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker who is the main accused in the clashes that erupted in Bihar's Aurangabad during Rama Navami celebrations on Sunday has fleed from the court premises.

According to report, BJP worker Anil Singh gave a slip to police in a local court.

“Singh was taken to court for being produced when he managed to flee. Action is being taken against negligent policemen,”Aurangabad SP Satya Prakash told Indian Express.

Among others who are booked include Aurangabad BJP spokesperson Ujjwal Kumar and ABVP leader Deepak Kumar.

The accused have been booked under the charges of criminal conspiracy, outraging religious feelings and  Arms Act provisions.

Three FIRs have been lodged against the 148 persons in Aurangabad, of whom 125 have been arrested.

The situation became tense on Sunday evening when rioters set ablaze more than 20 shops and pelted stones at those participating in a Rama Navami procession through Nawadih Colony.

As per reports, nearly 50 shops near Jama Masjid located on Old GT Road were torched by rioters, while nearly 60 persons, including 20 policemen were injured due to stone pelting by miscreants.

The situation further intensified on Monday, which thereby led to a curfew being imposed in the vicinity.

A week earlier, communal violence had erupted in Bhagalpur over playing of loud music during a religious procession which was being led by Arijit Shashwat, son of Union Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey.
