A new controversy has hit the ruling AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu with rebel TTV Dhinakaran's mouthpiece Jaya TV leaking an audio, allegedly of state fisheries minister D Jayakumar, discussing ways to abort an unborn child with a woman.

Jayakumar, however, claimed the audio clip is fake and a conspiracy to malign his image. "I will lodge a complaint against the circulation of the audio clip… I am also ready to undergo any kind of scrutiny needed, including voice tests to check the authenticity of the audio," he told reporters on Monday evening. He also charged Dhinakaran's family with the release of these audio clips.

The purported audio clip went viral on social media recently, with reports claiming that Jayakumar had impregnated the woman who could be heard in the video and was forcing the victim to abort the foetus. The leaked audio was purportedly a part of the phone conversation between the Tamil Nadu minister and the mother of the alleged victim.

In the audio clip, Jayakumar could be heard asking the mother to get the unborn child aborted. As the mother tells him about his relatives who expressed fear that he would abandon the victim after aborting the foetus, Jayakumar, in the clip, insists her to visit him alone to discuss how the abortion can be done.

The minister also assured the victim's mother that he would also speak to hospital authorities for the same. He repeatedly insisted that she has to come alone despite requests to bring a relative along.

Following the audio leak, senior AIADMK leader and Lok Sabha deputy speaker M Thambidurai came forward to support Jayakumar. Questioning the authenticity of the audio, Thambidurai said that Jayakumar is a nice man and he would not indulge in such acts. "He was chosen by Amma (late chief minister J Jayalalithaa)," he told reporters.
