A 30-year-old woman, working with the Atomic Minerals Directorate here, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from ceiling of her quarters, police said today.

Police suspect that Bhagya Laxmi took the extreme step last night, her first marriage anniversary, due to harassment by her husband and in-laws.

She wrote on wall of her room about the harassment she was allegedly subjected to by her husband Shashidhar, and in-laws, according to police.

Bhagya Laxmi had a love marriage with Shashidhar.

In a complaint lodged with police, her father has accused Shashidhar and his parents of pressurising her to bring additional dowry.

A case under section 304b (dowry death) of IPC has been registered with the Begumpet police, a senior police official said.

"Based on the complaint, a case of dowry death has been registered. We will proceed further on the basis of evidence," he said.

Nobody has been arrested so far.
