Giving credit of Metro projects in the country to former premier AB Vajpayee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, said: "Had Atalji's government got an extension, areas like Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra would have already seen metros running."

The PM was here to lay a foundation stone for the third line of Pune Metro from Shivajinagar area to Hinjewadi IT park. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present on the occasion.

During his speech, Modi said, "The momentum to Metro work was given by the Atalji's government. Now ten years after that, our government has not only added speed to the metro work but it has also increased the scale of the metro projects."

Taking a dig at UPA government, Modi said, "Atal ji always gave emphasis on infrastructural development in rural and urban areas. However, the previous government had different priorities and their vision was different. Our vision, however, is to connect every corner of the country."

Speaking about the growth of the technology sector, the PM said the country has all the infrastructure required for the fourth industrial revolution. "The country has an army of innovative minds. With help of Start-Up India and Atal Innovation Mission, India will take the centre-stage in the technology sector," he said.

Without naming the previous government, Modi accused them of not helping innovative minds. "The country never had the dearth of ideas. The dearth was of hand-holding to shape up these ideas."

"Our government is not only doing the hand-holding but it is converting the ideas into the industry," he added.
