Atal Bihari Vajpayee passes away: These states have declared a public holiday today

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on Thursday in AIIMS. After the former prime minster's demise several leaders from across the states have declared state holidays as mark of respect to Vajpayee.

Following the death of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a number of states have declared Friday as a public holiday. 

On Thursday, when the veteran politician finally breathed his last following health complications, the centre declared national mouring, it was reported. Following the Centre's declaration, several states, too, decided to issue holidays, with some issuing week-long mourning between August 16 and August 22.

Several states along with the Delhi government have announced a holiday for 17th August for all schools and colleges as well as government offices.  

All the state government and semi-government offices, schools, colleges and universities will remain closed today. Karnataka government has also declared a holiday today. However, the government offices managing the flood situations will continue to work.  

Vajpayee breathed his last at 5:05 pm at New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Atal Bihari Vajpayee was admitted to AIIMS on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion. He was on life support for the last couple of days.

People from all walks of life are paying tribute to one of the tallest leaders of the nation. Several people from the sports fraternity reacted on Vajpayee’s demise and paid their tribute.

West Bengal government has announced half-day holiday. 

 

According to the reports, all the Central Government Offices across India and the CPSUs would remain closed for half day tomorrow during the time of the funeral.
