Litter left lying around by those who came to attend the 'Run for Unity' event at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in Delhi, mocks the Swachh Bharat Mission which happens to be close to the heart of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prime Minister on Tuesday flagged off 'Run For Unity' in Delhi on the 142nd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This event was attended by President Ram Nath Kovind, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, and Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. The Run for Unity also saw the participation of a large number of people, including sports personalities like Sardar Singh, Deepa Karmakar, Suresh Raina and Karnam Malleswari.

But after the Prime Minister and other dignitaries left the venue, litter could be seen lying all over the place. Empty water bottles, leaflets, and flyers having pictures of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were lying strewn everywhere and even on road.

Now, this raises the question about the arrangements made to keep the venue clean after the event. The fact that Prime Minister, Home Minister and other senior dignitaries attended the event makes the matters even worse. Very little effort seems to have been made to keep the place clean after the event. This raises the question about the seriousness with which Swachh Bharat Mission is being pursued. If this the level of cleanliness after such mega-events, it's easy to imagine the situation when no one is watching.

The birth anniversary of Sardar Patel is being celebrated across the country as 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' (National Unity Day).

The central government observes October 31 all over the country as a day of a special occasion to foster and reinforce the government's dedication to preserve and strengthen unity, integrity, and security of the nation by celebrating it as a 'Rashtriya Ekta Diwas' to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

Several union ministers, senior officials, and others also participated in the event.
