A boat with about 45 passengers capsized in Brahmaputra river in North Guwahati, news agency ANI reported.

Two teams - one of police and the other SDRF teams have been rushed to the spot.

A rescue operation is currently underway.

According to a Times of India report, the boat was carrying passengers from Guwahati to North Guwahati when its engine stopped and it sank 200 metres away from the bank.

The Indian Express, however, reported that the boat capsized after it collided with a water supply project near Ashwaklanta in the Brahmaputra.

Local media reports state that about 15 passengers have been rescued so far, while one body has been recovered.
