Assembly polls: Select your leader as you choose your girlfriend, says actor Salman Khan

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who cast his vote for the Maharashtra Assembly polls on Wednesday, advised the people to select their leader in the same way as they choose their girlfriend.

"I want everyone to vote and vote for those who will do good things to their constituency. It is a good feeling that you have voted for a candidate who is doing well for the constituency. Just the way you select your girlfriend, your friends; you must select your leader," he told the media here.

Salman's brother Azbaaz Khan and yesteryears star Wahida Rehman also cast their votes in the same polling booth.

Several other Bollywood celebrities including Hema Malini, Sonali Bendre, Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher also cast their votes.

"I appeal the people of Maharashtra and Haryana to come out and vote so that we can elect the government we want," said Anupam Kher.

Kirron Kher on her part said the people who do not cast their votes have no right to question the government in power.

"Modiji's wave was there, is still there and will always be there as he is an honest and hardworking PM," she added.

Actress Sonali Bendre also urged the people of Maharashtra to vote.

"I really hope that Mumbai doesn't disappoint because the least we can do is step out and vote. We are all educated, we all want change, we want things for our city and we love our city, why can't we do this simple thing of stepping out and voting," she said while commenting on low voter turnout in Mumbai

Voting is underway across 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, There are around 4,119 candidates including 276 women who are in the fray for 288 seats in Maharashtra Assembly. 

The voting, which began at 7 am, will continue till 6 pm. The counting of votes will take place on October 19.
