Voting during the assembly elections has been brisk in Haryana so far, but sadly it hasn't been peaceful. There are media reports of sporadic violence from Sirsa, Rohtak, Hisar and Sonepat districts in the first few hours of voting.

The most alarming news has come from Sirsa, where stones were pelted at the vehicle of Haryana Lokhit Party (HLP) chief Gopal Kanda. Kanda allegedly slapped Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) Sirsa candidate ML Singla's brother, Om Prakash Singla, at Gaushala Mohalla in Sirsa town. Clashes broke out between supporters of the two parties and police rushed to the spot to control the situation. An abandoned vehicle carrying weapons was also seized by the police from the conflict zone.

According to a report by a leading daily, Kanda was taking rounds at Gaushala Mohalla, where he confronted Om Prakash Singla. Initially, the supporters clashed, which lead to friction between Kanda and OP Singla. However, after Kanda reportedly hit Singla, there was a full blown altercation.

Meanwhile, in Moria Khera village in Sirsa district, there was an altercation between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and INLD workers. One person was injured in firing and has been rushed to the local hospital. Polling was disturbed after the incident. However, the police have officially said they are still investigating whether the clash was between the two opposing political parties.

There have been allegations of booth capturing from parts of Hisar and Rohtak, and the police are on high alert to avert any untoward incident. The margins are supposed to be narrow in an extremely closely contested multi-cornered election. Thus tempers are frayed and all parties are looking to get the better of the other.
