The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has failed to open its victory account in Rajasthan in yet another election.

The party has contested 141 candidates in the state and had all of its candidates losing its security deposit. The results were baffling for many of the party leaders.  “The voting pattern is beyond comprehension, all our candidates have received nearly the same range. Its shocking that despite such hard groundwork, we were unable to convert our support in votes,” says Devendra Shastri, state convener of AAP.

Shastri has also been the party candidate from the Civil Lines seat of state capital Jaipur and has received less than 500 votes. Another star candidate of the party Rampal Jat, who contested from Tonk constituency also ended up sixth with mere 628 votes. The maximum number of votes for the party was received by their candidate from Bhinmal constituency, Nanda Dagla. However, despite getting more than five thousand votes, the candidate couldn’t save her security deposit. The party is now blaming connivance of BJP and the Congress while holding up to their doubts on electronic voting machines.

“The BJP and Congress are united to prevent the rise of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), they fear our transparent and clean politics and will do whatever is possible to keep us away. We still hold our doubts on the EVM and possibilities of it being rigged,” says Shastri.

The AAP has initiated declaring tickets much before any other party in the state and had been campaigning across the state for several months. The party has decided to contest solo after talks of alliance with other regional parties proved futile. It had even compromised its candidate screening criteria to issue tickets from rebels of BJP and Congress and had even emerged second in terms of party’s to have filed candidates with criminal cases pending against them. However, all the efforts were unable to help the party secure even a per cent of the total vote share.

NO NOTA EFFECT

The much uproar for ‘None of The Above’ option failed to reflect in the results. Even as many voters across the constituencies went for the option, there was nearly a per cent of the total votes that chose the option. In Jaipur, Bagru constituency has maximum 4203 Nota votes, while Viratnagar had minimum 501 votes going to NOTA.
