Chief Ministers of Assam and Nagaland, Tarun Gogoi and T R Zeliang have reportedly sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's help to resolve their border-related issues. The reported appeal has come even as Gogoi's convoy was reportedly attacked in the Golaghat area near the Assam-Nagaland border, prompting local police to fire in the air and launch a baton charge to disperse the protesters.

Ralan, an area of Wokha District in Nagaland bordering Assam has recently witnessed massive arson and killing, besides damage to village properties. The Government of Nagaland has also announced the setting up of an enquiry committee to look into the causes behind the latest bout of violence. The committee has been given 15 days time to submit its report.
