Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit today called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to apprise him of the prevailing situation in the state following the third wave of flood.

The governor submitted a detailed report of the flood that inundated 27 districts and affected more that 33 lakh people to the Prime Minister at New Delhi and requested him to send a second Central team to assess the widespread damages caused by the third wave, an official release said here.

Purohit also drew the Prime Minister's attention to the wide spread destruction that the current wave of flood has caused.

He also informed Modi that lower Assam districts, which had remained unaffected by previous waves of flood, has borne the brunt of the deluge in the third wave causing huge devastation including temporary snapping of rail-links.

The current wave of flood has already submerged 82 revenue circles and around 2970 revenue villages, affecting 1,43,123 hectares of crop area in the state.

The flood also took a toll on the infrastructural health of the state like embankments, roads, bridges etc.

The governor sought financial support from the Centre to help state government to recoup the large scale losses to rural and agrarian economy, the release said.

The prime minister expressed his concern over the prevailing situation and assured all central assistance to the state government to tide over the crisis.
