Assam CM Tarun Gogoi distributes laptops under Anundoram Borooah Award Scheme

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday distributed the 'Anundoram Borooah Laptop Award' among the students who secured first division in High school and Higher secondary.

"There has been development in the education sector, see we have distributed computers, in the year 2005 we had 12,000 students who got computers and today almost 41,000 students and it is more than three times. And there are a lot many educational institutes coming in the state," said Gogoi.

The award was started in the year 2005 and aims to encourage students and to help them in the IT education. This time, around 41,000 students have got the laptops.

"This is a good initiative of the government; it has also encouraged me to study. It will help develop our IT section and there are many who cannot afford to buy a laptop or computer," said Akash Deka, a student.

The award was instituted in honour of Late Anundoram Borooah who was the fourth Indian, and the first Assamese to join the prestigious ICS cadre and the first Indian to be appointed as Deputy Commissioner. He was also a great Sanskrit scholar and authored several books including the Sanskrit-English Dictionary.

The Assam Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. was entrusted to carry out the scheme on behalf of the Planning and Development Department.
