Newly elected JNUSU president Geeta Kumari took oath on Monday along with her team of office bearers.

A second-year MPhil student from the school of social sciences, the 24-year-old Geeta took admission at the university in 2011. She is a resident of Panipat, Haryana, and attended army schools in Allahabad and Guwahati.

Geeta's mother, Susheela Devi, is a housewife, while her father, Narendra Singh, is a junior commissioned officer (JCO) in the ordinance department of the Indian Army and posted in Jodhpur.

According to a report in Firstpost (Hindi), Geeta said that while her parents worry for her safety, they support her involvement in campus politics.

Earlier, the newly-elected office bearers of the JNU Students' Union took oath on Monday, a day after a Left alliance swept the four central panel posts.

The ABVP came second in all four posts, pushing the BAPSA (Birsa Ambedkar Phule Students' Association) to third.

The ceremony, in which all the 31 councillors also took oath, was attended by a large section of supporters of the Left-Unity alliance comprising the All India Students Association (AISA), Students' Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Students Federation (DSF).

New JNUSU President Geeta Kumari, Vice President Simone Zoya Khan, General Secretary Duggirala Srikrishna and Joint Secretary Shubhanshu Singh will take out a "Unity March" in the campus tonight.
