Stating that the country's entire political narrative has changed, Defence Minister Arun Jaitley on Saturday said that late Balasaheb Thackeray played an important role in bringing about this change by sticking to his ideology and thought despite being isolated.

Jaitley was speaking at a function where he released two volumes of Thackeray's interviews in book form titled Ekvachani.

The book is a compilation of 100 interviews published in Shiv Sena's mouthpiece Saamana, conducted by its editor Sanjay Raut over the past 25 years.

Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray, noted writer Sudhir Gadgil, and the book's publisher Sunil Mehta were also present on the dais.

Jaitley said that the country was going through a phase in which an alternative narrative backing those giving anti-national slogans has come up. He said that those who are criticising the army for taking action against terrorists are being backed by mainstream political parties. He added that is the reason the entire country is standing by national thoughts and is backing action against terrorists. He said that late Balasaheb Thackeray propagated his thoughts more than 50 years ago, and since he was an extraordinary orator, he could communicate with the audience whether the media was with him or not.

Thackeray said that Baslasaheb never retracted his statements. He added that whether it was son of soil, or providing employment to Shiv Sainiks, people understand it today when Mamata Banerjee talks about Ma Mati, Manush.
