The Army on Wednesday said it busted a large training camp in Assam belonging to the secessionist militant outfit Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT), a group having close links with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland and the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K).

At least three hardcore militants belonging to the outfit were killed, army sources in Delhi said.

Sources said that troops of the Red Horn Division of the Army launched a raid near Duni Tokbi Gaon in Karbi Anglong district of Assam during a joint operation with the Assam Police.

The operation was carried out on a specific information about the presence militants in the area. The hiding militants opened fire on the search parties and tried to flee. However, the security forces plugged the escape routes and engaged the militants. Security forces also busted a well concealed and stocked hideout and recovered massive cache of arms, ammunition and various other warlike stores that included one AK series rifle, two pistols, six bags and various incriminating documents, said a senior officer at the Army headquarters in Delhi.

Calling it a major setback for the outfit, Army said that the slain militants included an operational commander of KPLT .

KPLT was formed with an objective of carving an Autonomous Karbi State (AKS) out of Assam in 2011.
