Army is prepared for any challenge of infiltration: Commander of 16 Corps

Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Indian Army's 15 Corps, on Saturday said the army is prepared for any challenge of infiltration in Kashmir.

"In 2014, we have eliminated 11 terrorists, and 13 have been apprehended. Since last year, we have eliminated ten top terrorist leaders, and three leaders were apprehended. It has made a major change in terrorist activities in the valley," he told media here.

"We have an effective counter infiltration system in place. We are prepared for any challenge of infiltration," he added.

The army also unveiled a bust of Major P Purshottam, who died in 1999 to save the lives of three journalists.

"We also unveiled a burst of a martyr who died in 1999. He had saved three journalists at that time. It was a touching moment when those journalists gave the account of the attack. To save them, Major Purshottam sacrificed his life," Lt. Gen.Singh said.
