India is safe, will remain safe: Rajnath Singh over CAG report on army facing ammunition shortage

Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reacted to the CAG report that raised an alarm over Indian Army having enough ammunitions and weapons in case of a long internse war. "India is safe and will remain safe," he said t ANI.

A report by the CAG has raised flags about the defence sector's capability when it comes to having reserve arms during intense fighting, reports the The Hindustan Times.

The CAG report says that the Army would face huge shortage of ammunitions during intense war. The reserves would reportedly last only for 20 days during such a situation and that the force needs to increase its arms so that it could last for at least 40 days.

The assesment made by the Comptroller and Auditor General also said that 50% of the total tyoes of ammunition will last only for 10 days, the report added.

Another report by the CAG, says the locally built Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Mark I had 53 major shortcomings that could compromise its functioning to carry on during combat. The 63-page report said that the craft will be vulnerable to machine guns risking the lives of the pilots.

The LCA, a project for which Rs 13,390 crore was sanctioned so far, is set to replace the ageing MIG aircrafts. The report however says that the delay in LCAs manufacturing and supply has cost the IAF  Rs 20,037 crore as it had to upgrade other crafts to tackle the problem of repod force depletion.
