In the on-going controversy, it is the same arms lobby that is working behind the scenes to defame my image."

Minister of state for external affairs Gen (Retd) V K Singh has accused the arms lobby of maligning his image.

In an exclusive interview with Zee News, Gen Singh said the controversies are unnecessarily being created by "arms dealers" with some "hidden agenda" to defame him.

Sounding more philosophical than a general-turned-politician, VK Singh said, "When a person is doing his work successfully, there are few people who work with some agenda to scuttle his efforts. In the on-going controversy, it is the same arms lobby that is working behind the scenes to defame my image."

He said these lobbies have been targeting him as it suits their personal agenda.

When pressed for the reason that why an "arms lobby" is after him, Gen Singh said, "These arms dealers have suffered a lot during my tenure as they wanted to sell inferior products to the country."

He said he would reveal their names and expose them at an opportune time.

Gen VK Singh was army chief from March 31, 2010 to May 31, 2012.

Regarding the 'presstitute' controversy, Gen Singh denied that his 'presstitute' tweets had any link with the word 'prostitute'. "It was meant for the section of media which reports news to fit a particular agenda," he said.

Gen VK Singh was the point person for the evacuation of stranded Indians in war-torn Yemen. On his return on Friday morning from successful "Operation Rahat", he was given a tumultuous welcome at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi.

"The country has made a mark in the world with Operation Rahat, he said. India has successfully concluded its evacuation efforts in Yemen by airlifting 5,600 people, including 4,640 Indians and 960 nationals from 41 countries.
