Arani Lok Sabha constituency: Candidates for 2019 LS poll, past results, all updates

The key contest in Arani is going to be held among AIADMK’s V Elumalai and Congress’ Dr MK Vishnu Prasad. The Congress is contesting election in Tamil Nadu in alliance with the DMK, therefore, the latter has not fielded its candidate in Arani constituency.

Arani Lok Sabha Constituency 2019: Arani parliamentary constituency election will take place on April 18, which is the second phase of Lok Sabha election 2019. The key contest in Arani is going to be held among AIADMK’s V Elumalai and Congress’ Dr MK Vishnu Prasad. The Congress is contesting election in Tamil Nadu in alliance with the DMK, therefore, the latter has not fielded its candidate in Arani constituency.

Besides, Congress, the DMK has entered into an alliance with CPI(M), CPI, MDMK, VCK, IUML, KMDK and IJK. While, DMK's arch rival AIADMK is contesting the forthcoming election in alliance with BJP, PMK, DMDK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthia Tamizagam, Puthia Needhi Katchi and NR Congress. 

The polling in all the 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu will be held in the second phase. 

AIADMK's V Elumala is the sitting MP in Arani who defeated R Sivanandam of the DMK with a margin of close to 2.5 lakh votes.

According to the 2011 census data, Arani houses a total of 3,725,000. The district has an average literacy rate of 83%.

Tamil Nadu has a total of 39 parliamentary constituencies where 7 of them including Sriperumbudur, Chidambaram, Rasipuram, Pollachi, Perambalur, Tenkasi, and Nagapattinam have been reserved for candidates representing scheduled caste community. However, no seat here has been reserved for Scheduled Tribes.

Arani Lok Sabha results in 2014, 2009 and 2004 

2014: V Elumala of the AIADMK received 502721 votes and he defeated R Sivanandam of the DMK who only got 258877 votes. 

2009: M Krishnaswamy of the of Congress received 396728 votes. He defeated N Subramaniyan of the ADMK who only got 289898 votes.

Parliamentary elections 2019 are taking place in 7 phases. The first phase voting has already taken place which was held on April 11. The remaining phases will go to polls on April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be held on May 23.
