The Election Commission Friday said it is examining the replies received in response to the showcause notices issued to West Bengal Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mandal and CPI-M legislator Anisur Rehman.

"We have received it today (Friday) and we are examining it," chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta told reporters here.

Mandal, Trinamool's Birbhum district chief, allegedly used offensive words during a workers' meeting and was served two showcause notices by sub-divisional officer, Katwa in Burdwan district and by SDO Labhpur in Birbhum district.

The poll panel had slapped a formal showcause notice on Mondal April 2.

The panel has also issued a formal showcause notice to Communist Party of India-Marxist legislator Rehman who had been served a notice earlier by SDO Rampurhat in the Birbhum district for using unparliamentary language against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
