Anti Corruption Bureau recovers over Rs 50 lakh cash from woman Town Planning officer's house

 Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today raided the residence of a senior woman Town Planning officer and recovered Rs 54.50 lakh cash and 450 tolas gold.

The raid followed registration of a case against her and eight others for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 4.33 lakh from a complainant in return of official favour, police said.

The ACB (Thane Range) conducted a raid at the residence of Disha Prabhakar Sawant, Joint Director in office of Assistant Town Planner, Raigad, and recovered Rs 54.50 lakh cash and 45 tolas gold, as per the press release issued by ACB.

"A house search was carried out at Sawant's residence in Raigad district and Rs 54.50 lakh cash and 45 tolas gold was recovered. During the search we also found that besides owning a flat, she has two shops in Dhokali, Kolshet in Thane and also a bar at Khalapur," SP ACB Thane Range Datta Karale said.

Two other officials against whom the bribery case is registered were identified as Raju Eknath Pandit and Tulsidas Rathod posted in the same office.

Besides them, five private persons were also booked in this connection.

"The case was registered against them for demanding Rs 4.33 lakh from the complainant for doing an official favour," Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB, (Thane Range) Shrinivas Ghadge said.

An offence under sections 4 and 8 of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and section 109 of IPC has been registered with Alibaugh police station in Raigadh district, he said.
