Anna Hazare ends hunger strike after talks with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis

Veteran social activist Anna Hazare ended his hunger strike in Delhi today after he spoke to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanavis and Union Minister of State for Agriculture Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.

Hazare broke his fast in New Delhi amid reports of his deteriorating health. On Wednesday, several media reports suggested that he had complained about high blood pressure and low sugar level. His aide also said that the anti-corruption crusader had lost five kg weight.

Earlier, Nana Patole, former BJP MP, who quit the party and joined the Congress, also met Hazare at the Ramleela Maidan where he is on hunger strike since March 23.

On Monday, the Centre reached out to Hazare, with its emissary and Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajana assuring the social-activist that most of his "demands will be taken care of".

Although the first two days of the protest saw very few protesters joining him at Ramlila Maidan, but the third day was better for Anna's revamped India Against Corruption Movement.

Almost half a thousand farmers from Uttar Pradesh joined the protest along with their families, of which about 300 farmers have also announced to begin indefinite fasting to extend their support.

Hazare's demands included appointment of Lokpal at the Centre and Lokayuktas in states, and giving better prices to farmers for their yield.

Hazare's 2011 agitation in Delhi had led to the passing of the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act 2013, but the Centre is yet to appoint a Lokpal.
