Cracking down on the protest against the attacks on churches in the national capital, the police on Thursday detained some agitators while assuring that the due legal process will be followed.

Shouting slogans for justice, agitators demanded immediate action against those responsible for the attacks.

“We have detained some protesters, the legal process will be followed,” said Mukesh Meena, Joint Commissioner of Police.

The spokesperson of the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese, Father Dominic Emanuel was also dragged into a bus. He said, "Police is being forceful and they shouldd be ashamed of it."

Few Christian groups had organised the protest alleging "lack of serious action in recent attacks on churches".

They said they would march to Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence but were detained prior to that, as according to police, "nobody can hold demonstration like this and nobody has the right to go to the Home Minister's residence just like that".

Father Savarimathu Sankar, spokesperson for the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese, said, "We only want justice and we want protection of our churches. We are not demanding it as Christians but as citizens of India.

"We have given representations to the President and the Prime Minister but there has been no follow up from their side. This is the fifth incident and it is apparent that the incidents were of communal nature."

AAP leader Raghav Chadha has also been detained and was taken into the police van. Raghav Chadha said, "I am here in personal capacity and have come to show solidarity. It is in national interest and not political interest."

The spokesperson for the Delhi Catholic Archdiocese, Savarimuthu, said it was the job of the police to find out who is behind the attacks. He also condemned the detainment of some of the agitators by the police.

"All we are asking for is proper security and safety. All the five churches are not small, it's all in main churches and in main areas. We are asking the police to find out who is behind these attacks. We have gone to everyone, but nobody is hearing us," Savarimuthu said.St. Alphonsa's Church in Vasant Kunj was the latest church attacked in the capital on Monday.

Following the attack, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notices to the Secretary, Union Home Ministry, Chief Secretary, Government of NCT of Delhi and the Commissioner of Police, Delhi calling for detailed reports including the status of investigation into allegations of desecration of the sanctity of the St. Alphonsa's Church.
